ILLUSTRIOUS SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF ILOBU, (VOLUME TWO) 16TH EDITION
My
search light has picked on a personality that is well known within
Ilobu and her environs with a unique nickname. His nickname is very much
loaded and pregnant with meanings; a metaphor with ellipses for the
very wise ones. He is a well organized personality, industrious,
trustworthy and got himself shadowed with sound moral values
worthy of emulation and appreciation. He is one man, despite his age
that has continued to do very well in his chosen profession.
Alhaji Sulaiman Bello popularly known as ENIAFELAMO was born by Pa Bello Iyanda at Asalu,s Compound – Oke Oja, Omu-Aran, Kwara State in 1943. He hails from Alape’s Compound, Ilobu. His father was a business man at Omu-Aran, who later took his business down to Osogbo but as time went on, his business collapsed and had to relocate home.
Alhaji Sulaiman Bello Eniafelamo started his primary education at Oroki Primary School, Olode, Osogbo in 1949. He also attended All Saints Primary School between 1951 and 1952. With the introduction of the Late Obafemi Awolowo free education policy, he was privileged to attend St Michaels’ Primary School between 1955 and 1956 and later completed his primary education with a “Grade A” School Leaving Certificate at L. A. Primary School, Gbobamu, Ilobu in 1960.
In his desperate quest for primary education, his uncles at Akeyo’s Compound Ilobu served as his private tutors and guidance angels; Professor Adeagbo Sheik and Alhaji Isola Adepoju. After the completion of his primary education, it was dawned on him that he could not continue his secondary education as a result of paucity of fund resulting from the collapse of his father’s business. He took the bull by the horns and planned for a better tomorrow with or without secondary education. He enrolled for the acquisition of a bricklaying skill at Alumo’s Compound, Erin-Osun in 1961 and got his freedom to practice in 1964.
Having equipped himself with the bricklaying skills (masonry), he moved to Ara town. At Ara, he worked for just two years; 1965 to 1967 and was so blessed to have done a lot of building works most of which are still standing edifice till date. In 1967, he moved to Ejigbo and also got involved in a lot of building projects. He left Ejigbo for Kwara State in 1968 where he also worked for another 2 years before returning to Ilobu in 1969.
Alhaji Sulaiman Bello had acquired the needed on the job skills and exposure with his sojourns ups and downs and thus become a force to be reckoned with in building works. His workaholic nature and good human relations endeared him to the hearts of so many notable people across the length and breadth of Nigeria who connected him with big building contracts in Osogbo, Lagos, Abuja etc. Worth mentioning is that he was amongst the bricklayers who worked at Aso Rock, Abuja during its construction. This singular act stamped him out among his colleagues and further fetched him big building projects.
Today, to the glory of God, he is a successful building contractor with chains of businesses. Happily married and blessed with successful children. He is also proudly the Chairman of Block Makers Association in Irepodun Local Government. His travail in life is a great lesson to the up-coming ones that the hope of making it real big in life isn’t lost for those who saw the future and worked towards it.
His primary education really helped to trigger that great potential in him. His sense of duty, organization and professional touch in all his dealings with his clients which was sketched out with aesthetic value won him so many jobs and all these should be learnt and practiced by those who share his kind of story and hoped for greatness in life.
Thus, looking at the input of Alhaji Sulaiman Bello into the commercial activities of Ilobu with all his businesses which are based in Ilobu, coupled with his mentorship to many who have followed his footsteps and have become successful today, which has in no small measure contributed to the upward shift in Ilobu economic graph, I therefore with all humility present him to the public for celebration and appreciation as an illustrious son of Ilobu Asake.
