ILLUSTRIOUS SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF ILOBU, (VOLUME TWO) 6TH EDITION

A lion would not be a threat to other animals at birth. It certainly lives to attain the status of the King of the Jungle after much time, training and adaptation to the customs and traditions of its peers. The man being x-rayed is no doubt a colossus in the humanitarian sector, a disciplined and well trained teacher, a guru of information collection and dissemination. He is an Octogenarian with many glittering feathers to his cap; good enough to arrest a positive minded person who also desires a Godly way of life from afar.

Chief Solomon Adedokun Adisa was born in 1932 to Pa Daniel Omotoso Ayangbemi Adisa of Oluwofin/Elesin Pupo’s Compound, Ilobu. His father’s early exposure to Christianity fueled his desire to send all his children to school. His acceptability of the Christian religion enhanced his ability to be able to read and write in Yoruba Language. Thus, in 1944, he registered Solomon Adedokun Adisa at St Michael’s Anglican Primary School, Ilobu. His brothers were against sending his only male child to school. They wanted him to take charge of his father’s cocoa plantation at Ikotun near Ara in Egbedore Local Government Area. The school had classes 1 and 2 only, so he for sought transfer to United Central School, Ilobu in 1946 where he finished in 1951.

In 1952, being the only boy that passed the School Leaving Certificate Examination from St Michael’s Anglican Church, Ilobu, a powerful delegation was sent to the Supervisor of Anglican Schools at Osogbo to get him employed as a teacher but it didn’t work out. His Uncle, Late Prince Stephen O. Ogunsina then assisted him to secure a teaching employment in 1953 and he was posted to St Michael’s Anglican School, Essie, Via Offa and was put in charge of Class 2B. In the same year, the Action Group Government of Western Region set up Teachers Training Colleges across the region. He sat for entrance examination into the one at Ejigbo and he was successful. Hence, in 1954, he was admitted into the Grade III Training Course at the Collrge at Ejigbo which he completed in December, 1955 and was posted to Ifelodun District Council Area with Headquarters at Iree but as a result of the whitlow attack on one of his fingers, he could not report on time and his posting was re-effected to Nawair-Ud-Deen Primary School, Iree.

In 1958, he was transferred to the Local Authority Primary School, Ada as the Headmaster of the school. He had his Grade II at the Teachers’ Training College, Osogbo in 1959/60. He later got admission into the University of Ibadan to study Adult Education and Community Development in 1965. He graduated in 1967 and was offered a temporary appointment as a Research Assistant in the Department of Adult Education of the University of Ibadan. He worked in the University between 1967 and 1969 and had to quit because the Research Grants which was used for the payment of his salary was not forth coming as it used to be in the past. In October 1969, he joined the Ministry of Economic Planning and Reconstruction of the Western State Government as Assistant Social Development Officer. With hard work and dedication to duty, he rose to the position of the Deputy Director, Community Development Services, and when Osun State was created in 1991, he came back home and was promoted to the position of the Director of Community Development Services in 1995. He retired meritoriously in December, 1995 having completed the mandatory 35 years of active service in both the public and civil service.

After his retirement, he became highly committed to Community service, Church activities and Youth development. He allocated a big chalk board for WORDS OF WIDOM which he wrote on, every week with inspiring words. This honestly inspired and recharged many youths in Ilobu to embrace positivities. He had been a member of IDU from inception. He was the Secretary of the Ibadan Branch for more than 10 years until Osun State was created and he had to relocate to Osun. In recognition of his huge investment into the growth of Ilobu, he was installed as the Baale of Ilupeju Community by His Royal Majesty, Oba Asiru Olatoye Olaniyan II, the Olobu of Ilobu. Also in July 2011, St Michael’s Anglican Church, Ilobu also honoured him with the title of “Baba Ijo”.
Baba was appointed as Patron by many Clubs and Associations in Ilobu – the Pacesetters Club, the Luminaries Club, the Zenith Club, the Paragon Club, the Lovely Sisters Club, Ojutu Youth Forum etc. This evidently showed the worth and immeasurable value of Baba to the youths and the community at large.

I therefore humbly present Chief Solomon Adedokun Adisa to the whole world for appreciation and recognition as an illustrious son of Ilobu Asake.

Dare Alabi,
Project Director.
