ILLUSTRIOUS SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF ILOBU, (VOLUME TWO) 11TH EDITION

This edition presents a personality who is an encyclopedia of Arabic and Islamic knowledge. This has in no small measure helped him to organize himself into a true religious person who has lived as a model and career-guide to many up-coming lads. He is exquisitely humble, articulate, organized, dependable and responsible. No doubt, he has succeeded in shaping many lives via western education, Islamic teachings/sermons and unbending good deeds. He had used his status and position to help bind people to their creator and closed gap between man and pessimism.

Alhaji Abdulazeez Salam was born to Alhaji Salam of Olowola’s Compound in Ilobu some seventy years ago. He attended Woru “B” Primary School, Ilobu for his Primary education between 1955 and 1958; he moved to AUD Primary School, Ilobu in 1959 and completed his primary education in 1960. He then proceeded to AUD Modern School, Osogbo in 1961 and left in 1963 to pursue Arabic Studies at Olokuta Arabic Training Centre under the tutorship of Alhaji Abubakri Olokuta till 1969. In quest for the fulfillment of his father’s love for Arabic Education, he proceeded to Islamic Youth Centre Iwo, where he bagged IDAADIYYAT Certificate in 1970. In 1976, he also bagged ATTAWIJIHYAT Certificate from another Islamic Training Centre at Agege, Lagos.

With all these Arabic and Islamic Certificates, he was employed as a classroom teacher at the Institute of Arabic and Islamic Literature, Owo, Ondo State between November 1976 and 1977. He got a similar offer at Ojoro Market Primary School, Ede between 1977 and 1978. Still bubbling with the zeal and determination to be a top flight Islamic Scholar, he traveled to Saudi Arabia, got admitted to King Abdul-Azeez University, Gedda and bagged a Diploma in Arabic Language in 1979. He also bagged a B.A. Arts Degree in Arabic Language and Islamic Studies from Ummul Qura University, Makkah, Saudi Arabia in 1984. He came back to Nigeria to fulfill the mandatory National Youth Service at the Muyideen College, Ilorin in 1984/1985. After his NYSC program, he was employed as a Classroom Teacher at Lafenwa High School, Abeokuta by the Ogun State Government in 1986 until 1994 when he finally decided to relocate home and use his knowledge to develop the up-coming ones in Ilobu and environs.

At home, he taught at ADS Grammar School, Erin-Osun between 1994 and 2000, St Paul’s Grammar School, Ilobu between 2000 and 2007 as Acting Vice Principal and was later confirmed as a substantive Vice Principal. He had his Post Graduate Diploma in Education in 2006 and in 2007, he was posted to Laarosin Grammar School as the Pioneer Principal until his retirement in 2009 after a meritorious service in the Public Service of both Ogun, Oyo and Osun State.

His leadership style was built on service to the nation, trust, dedication and utmost belief in the dictates of Allah. He had served as the Treasurer for Islamic Development Organisation of Nigeria, Abeokuta Branch, Ogun State between 1990 and 1994, he was also the Treasurer of the Istijabah Group of Nigeria, Abeokuta Branch, Ogun State between 1989 and 1992. At home, he was the Chairman, Istijabah Prayer Group of Nigeria, Ilobu Branch between 1994 and 1995.

No doubt, he has seen how things were done outside the shore of our country; Sudan, Ethiopia and Saudi Arabia and he imported those values into the teaching, mentorship and grooming of those who were privileged to pass through him. He was and still a beacon of light to many who are aspiring for either Islamic and western education. He is a family man to the core and blessed with lovely children.

Therefore, considering his immeasurable service to humanity and Ilobu community in particular; as a teacher/school administrator, as a foremost Islamic scholar and as a community leader, I humbly present Alhaji Abdulazeez Salam to the whole world for appreciation and recognition as an illustrious son of Ilobu Asake.

Dare Alabi,
Project Director.
