ILLUSTRIOUS SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF ILOBU, (VOLUME TWO) 13TH EDITION
In
focus today, is a man who stole the hearts of many students in those
good old days. His house was strategically located at the entrance of
Ilobu Secondary Commercial Grammar School now Ilobu High School as a
result of Government policy. His neat BMW car used to be a sign that he
was around and thus the zeal and determination in the
teeming students was more than fired each time he rode exotically into
his compound in his “pleasure car”. He is very quiet, intelligent and
smart. His world was a beacon of hope to many boys and girls in the
white and green uniform.
Engineer Lere Ojo (MNSE) was born on the 1st day of October 1949 to Pa David Ojo and Madam Maria Olalonpe Ojo of Gbena’s Compound in Ilobu. He attended St Michael’s Anglican Primary School, Ilobu between 1956 and 1962. He proceeded to St Paul’s Modern School, Ilobu and attended between 1963 and 1964. In 1963, while in the modern school, a teacher advised him that he was not a modern school material and as such should proceed to a Grammar School. After his modern school in 1964, his attempt to proceed as advised was not realizable as result of lack of fund. In 1965, his dream materialized; he was admitted into Akinorun Grammar School, Ikirun and passed his WASC Examination in 1969 in flying colours.
In 1970, he got an appointment as a teacher with Young Tajudeen Primary School, Masifa near Ejigbo. In 1970, he was admitted to the famous Polytechnic of Ibadan, “Ise Loogun Ise” to study Electrical Engineering. He completed his Ordinary National Diploma in 1972 and was appointed as a teacher at Odo-Otin Grammar School, Okuku in the same year. In 1974, he got another appointment with the National Electric Power Authority (NEPA), Lagos but in September of the same year, he went back for his Higher National Diploma at the Polytechnic Ibadan and graduated in June 1976. He observed his mandatory National Youth Corps Service between August 1976 and July 1977 at the Nigerian Institute for Oilpalm Research (NIFOR), Benin City.
He was very active at NIFOR and participated spiritedly in the construction of a new oilpalm mill which was ongoing while he was serving and this fetched him an appointment as a Mill Engineer in the Institute after the expiration of his youth service on the 2nd of August, 1977 and on the 24th of June 1981, he got appointed as an Electrical Engineer with the Osogbo Steel Rolling Company. His new appointment took him to the then West Germany for training between August 1981 and July 1982. He was trained in Mill Electrics by AEG TELEFUNKE, Berlin. After he had returned from West Germany to the Osogbo Steel Rolling Company, he was posted to the Technical Service Department as Engineer in charge of Mill Drives (Electrical).
No doubt, he is a devoted Christian of the Anglican Communion, a P.C.C member at St Michael’s Anglican Church, Ilobu from 1992 to 2003. His efforts in the siting and construction of St Peter’s Anglican Church, Pako, Ilobu in April 2002, cannot be underestimated. He is a P.C.C. member of the church and a synod delegate representing the church in Osun Diocese, Osogbo. He is proudly a member of the Ilobu Council of Christian Elders.
Engineer Lere Ojo (MNSE) is a role model to many youths. He is the President of Ilobu Elite Club; a club with prominent sons of Ilobu as members. Ilobu Elite Club was a pivot upon which many visible developmental projects in the community rested on.
Therefore, it is worth stating that his life had triggered that willingness and aspirations in those who saw his race as a worthwhile one and wished for nothing but greatness in life. His contributions into growing Ilobu as a town are also immeasurable.
I humbly present Engineer Lere Ojo (MNSE) to the whole world for appreciation and recognition as an illustrious son of Ilobu Asake.
