ILLUSTRIOUS SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF ILOBU, (VOLUME TWO) 2ND EDITION
Life
is pregnant with different meanings. Sometimes, the definition of life
to mortal is a product of his travails and accomplishments. To some, it
is a bed of roses. To some, it is a battle field while some see life as a
central stage for God’s own drama. Many attribute their sojourn to
destiny and thus belief that whatever God has
ordained would certainly come to fulfillment. My personality, just like
most natives of Ilobu, with traceable origin to their root but for have
decided to stay put in Ilobu for obvious reasons best known to them.
Oba Gbolagade Tiamiyu II, the Olojo of Ojo is undoubtedly a man of 2 sides of a coin. His progenitors are from Ojo in Egbedore Local Government but had to migrate to Ilobu hundreds of years ago. Getting to Ilobu, some of those who migrated from Ojo then settled at Dagbolu, in Ilobu while others settled at Olobu’s Compound. The forefathers of Oba Gbolagade Tiamiyu II were among those that settled at the Olobu’s Compound and records have it that they played prominent roles in seeing to the peace and harmony of the palace. Thus, he was born on the 22nd of November, 1946 to Prince Oyeniyi Alade Tiamiyu and Alhaja Tiamiyu Sinatu Aderonke at the Olobu’s Compound, Ilobu.
He had his primary education at St Michael’s Primary School between 1953 and 1961. He proceeded to St Paul’s Secondary Modern School in 1961 but had to quit in the same year. He was then enrolled to learn the art of printing at Okubanjo Printing Press, 101 Station Road, Osogbo. He worked briefly with Agboola Produce Store in Agege, Lagos. He later relocated home and ventured into bakery business. He started with a bakery at Ejigbo and later opened some other branches in Ilobu and Ifon-Osun. He acquired a direct license to sell flour at the Nigeria Flour Mill, Apapa and henceforth, rose to become a successful business man cum politician. In 1986, he traveled to Hong-Kong on a business trip.
In 1987, he became a councilor representing Olobu Ward 1. He took it upon himself to slug it out with the then Chairman of the Local Government who refused to add Ilobu to the address of the Local Government. The chairman; Alhaji Rasheed Oyedele insisted that the council would bear IREPODUN LOCAL GOVERNMENT, period but “Omo Onile” as he was fondly called insisted that ILOBU must reflect on the inscription. And at last his agitation sailed through and thus, the identity of the Secretariat became Irepodun Local Government, Ilobu. Oba Gbolagade Tiamiyu was also a member of the Olobu Advisory Committee for years, thereby giving his all to the service of the palace.
In 1991, Oba Samuel Oyeleye, the Olojo of Ojo joined his ancestors and his stool became vacant. Thus, with a traceable origin to Onimodun Ruling House, Ojo , a burning desire to serve at all times coupled with his influence as a successful businessman cum politician, he joined the race to occupy the stool of the Olojo of Ojo and since destiny is bigger than man; he was installed as the Olojo of Ojo Town on the 31st of May, 1991.
Worth noting is that before he became a king, he served Ilobu community meritoriously. He was so audacious in challenging any unfavourable policy and decisions against Ilobu and her people. As the Olojo of Ojo, he has also brought tremendous development to the community and the people of Ojo Township.
I therefore humbly present Oba Gbolagade Tiamiyu to the whole world for appreciation, in recognition of his invaluable contributions to the growth of Ilobu socially, politically and economically.
