ILLUSTRIOUS SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF ILOBU, 30TH EDITION
He
is a very dynamic personality, with gigantic form that needs little or
no introduction. He is one fine "young" man with exquisite posture
wherever he finds himself. From my overview, he is one man, finely good
and exceptionally outstanding in many things; engineering, politics,
administration and community service.
Engineer Abdelganiyu Olusola Akinwumi is from Kuelu’s Compond in Ilobu. He started his engineering career in 1969 with Ove Arup & Partners, a British Engineering firm based in Ibadan. This invariably gave him all the necessary drills and rudiments needed to forge ahead as a successful engineer. He was exposed to design, detailing, supervision, construction, maintenance, surveying, structural, airport and highway engineering. He was actually involved in the construction of the Muritala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, Kano Airport, Jos Airport and some rain protection and flood control projects across the country.
Having gathered enough experience, he voluntarily resigned his appointment with Ove Arup & Partners to establish his own Engineering Consulting Firm – HESHO and Associates. He also co-established some other companies like MATALABI Nigeria Limited, DOBEES Company Limited etc before he finally incorporate STYREX Nigeria Limited in 1994 of which he is the President. He is registered with COREN and he is a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and was honoured with the President Merit Award of the Nigerian Society of Engineers for his outstanding contribution to the Engineering field in the year 2002.
Aside engineering, he is an astute political icon. He was a staunch member of the Unity Party of Nigeria between 1978 and 1983, the Irepodun Local Government Chairman of the Social Democratic Party between 1990 and 1992, Chairman, Board of Directors of WEMABOD Estates Limited, Lagos between 1992 and 1993 and the Secretary of Afenifere between 1992 and 2000. After the exit of the dreadful Khaki boys in government, Alliance for Democracy won the Governorship election in 1999 in Osun State and he was sworn in as the Secretary to the Osun State Government. His appointment brought jubilation to the community; it was a kind of dividend of democracy.
This position greatly affected the growth of the community and nurtured many up-coming politicians. Some sons and daughters of Ilobu secured employment into both the public service and the civil service of the state of Osun. Many of whom are doing beautifully well now, including my humble self. Many also seized the opportunity not only to gain admission into the university but to study the course of their choice. Between 2012 and August 2016, he was appointed Non-Executive Director, Nigerite Nigeria Limited and in September 2016, he has just been appointed as Non-Executive Director, Odu’a Investment Company Limited, Ibadan.
He is no doubt a big fish in the Ocean as far as the South- Western States is concerned. Therefore, in recognition of his outstanding projection of the name of our community and his immense contributions to the growth of Ilobu both politically and socially, the Olobu of Ilobu honuored him with a first class traditional title of the AKINROGUN of Ilobu land on the 28th day of September, year 2002. The Muslim Community also honoured him with the tittle of the SARAKI ADINI of Ilobu Central Mosque on the 5th day of December, year 2011.
In recognition of these sterling contributions to the growth of Ilobu and her natives, I therefore humbly present Engineer Abdelganiyu Olusola Akinwumi as an illustrious son of Ilobu Asake.

Project Director.
