ILLUSTRIOUS SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF ILOBU, (VOLUME TWO) 3RD EDITION
Despite
the fact that he was born into royalty, he walked out and far away in
search of a desirable future. A future that will not only be useful to
him alone but that will serve as vessel for sailing many up-coming ones
to their destiny. He is a silent achiever of the first order. Most of
his activities are quietly done but with salient result on humanity and Ilobu community in particular.
Professor Mathew Oyedokun Oladimeji hails from Olobu’s Compound in Ilobu. He was born in 1942 and started his primary education at St John’s Demonstration School, Owo in 1949 and finished in 1954. He had his secondary education at Imade College, Owo between 1954 and 1960. He proceeded for his Higher School Certificate (HSC) at Ijebu-Ode Grammar School between 1962 and 1963. He taught briefly at Imesi-Ile High School in 1964 before gaining admission to the University of Lagos in 1964. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry with Second Class Upper Division. It is on record that he won for himself the Vice Chancellor prize for the BEST graduating student in the Faculty of Science. He worked at Iganmode Grammar School, Ota, for just a year before securing employment in 1968 as Education Officer at the Education Ministry of the Western State of Nigeria.
With his new job, he was posted to Comprehensive High School Ayetoro, Egbado to teach Chemistry. During the long vacation at COMPRO, he got an award from Ford Foundation to attend a summer course in Chemistry at the University of California, United States of America. In 1969, he was transferred to Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo. In 1970, he got a UNESCO award to attend a Post Graduate Programme at Brunel University, Middlesex, London. This programme afforded him the opportunity to attend science workshops in the University of Southampton, the University of Sussex, the University of London and in the University of Edinburgh.
He took up appointment with the Institute of Education, University of Ife in 1972 and travelled to Glasgow in Scotland in 1979 to pursue his Doctorate Degree. He eventually bagged his Ph.D in Chemistry in 1983. He joined the Federal University of Technology, Akure in 1993 as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry. Having stayed away from his home town in search of a very bright future, as a lecturer at the Federal University Akure, he maximized every opportunity available at his disposal to assist Ilobu sons and daughters seeking admission at the Federal University of Technology, Akure. Worth noting also, is the fact that all those that he assisted to gain admission to study at FUTA are now pride to the community; they are all doing beautifully well in their chosen field, 2 of them are now Ph.D holders, lecturing in the university; one is at FUTA, Akure and the other person is at the Fountain University, Osogbo.
Worth noting is his generous wish to support indigent students. His scholarship programme for Ilobu students in higher institution has been running for over a decade now; giving hope to the hopeless. His love for youths’ programmes and developmental activities is worthy of note and appreciation. Thus, his brilliant effort in the academics was crowned when he became a Professor of Chemistry in 2003. Though retired but not tired, he has worked after his retirement at FUTA as a Professor of Chemistry at BOWEN University, Iwo between 2007 and 2009, as the Dean, College of Natural Science, Joseph Ayo Babalola University between 2010 and 2017 and he is presently the Head of Department, Chemical Sciences Department, Achievers University, Owo.
I therefore humbly present Professor Matthew Oyedokun Oladimeji to the whole world for appreciation and recognition as an illustrious son of Ilobu Asake.
